These days, more and more patients are experiencing the benefits of a PDO thread lift. The non-invasive and non-surgical treatment is a great alternative to a traditional face lift, which is not only very invasive but is also permanent.
While much of the comparison between a traditional face lift and a PDO thread lift revolves around what goes into the procedure, both during and after, there’s another very important aspect to consider — how much it costs.
This is yet another major advantage of a PDO thread lift: It’s a lot less expensive than a traditional face lift.
Below, we’ll discuss more about the cost of a thread lift and why it’s the preferred method of attaining great-looking skin and facial features.
The average cost of a PDO thread lift in the U.S. is a little less than $2,000. While that may sound like a lot of money, consider that it’s roughly 40% less than the cost of a traditional facelift. In other words, it’s only about $2,000 compared to about $5,000 for a traditional facelift.

What’s a Thread Lift?
First, it’s important to understand what a thread lift is so that you can fully understand what goes into the procedure and why it’s less expensive than a traditional face lift.
PDO threads are essentially dissolvable sutures that are inserted into the skin to help patients attain a desired look. There are many different types of PDO threads, and each is designed to do something a little different.
Smooth Threads
Smooth threads, for instance, are designed to help stimulate the production of collagen in your face.
When these threads are inserted into your skin, your body gets alerted that there’s a foreign substance there. In response, it begins to produce more collagen in the area to break down the substance.
What ends up happening is that collagen tightens the skin and helps to build volume as it works with tissue surrounding the area in which the threads are inserted. This results in your skin having improved elasticity, texture and firmness.
Barbed Threads
The other main type of PDO threads are called barbed threads. They have small “barbs” attached to the threads themselves, which helps to grab onto skin and lift it up.
They are used in various areas of the face to help improve the look of the face. This could include around the lips to give them more definition, under the eyelids to correct a “droopy” look and in the cheeks to create extra tightening.
Barbed threads also help to stimulate the production of collagen — since the body will still work to dissolve them — but that’s not the main reason for their design.
How Much Does a Thread Lift Cost?
There are a number of factors that will determine how much a PDO thread lift will cost. This includes your location, the provider you choose, what area of the face you are going to treat and how many areas of the face you are going to treat.
That being said, the average cost of a PDO thread lift in the U.S. is a little less than $2,000.
While that may sound like a lot of money, consider that it’s roughly 40% less than the cost of a traditional facelift. In other words, it’s only about $2,000 compared to about $5,000 for a traditional facelift.
It’s important to understand here that a higher cost doesn’t equate to a better procedure. There are many reasons why a PDO thread lift is less expensive than a traditional face lift — and all of these reasons are why the procedure has become so popular.
For one, you don’t need general anesthesia for a thread lift. Since it’s a non-surgical procedure, your practitioner will just use general numbing agents around the area of the procedure rather than “putting you under.”
Second, the procedure doesn’t take a lot of time to complete. While a face lift might take a few hours from start to finish, a PDO thread lift typically takes less than an hour to complete. This is why it’s referred to as the “lunchtime face lift.”
Finally, the materials and tools that are needed to complete a PDO thread lift are less expensive than a traditional face lift. You don’t need to go to a hospital or surgical center to get the procedure; they can be done right in the practitioner’s office. Plus, the threads themselves and needles used are a lot less expensive than what’s needed for a traditional face lift.
Other Major Benefits of a Thread Lift
In addition to the much lower cost and much less invasive nature of PDO threads, the downtime and recovery period are also a major reason why thread lifts are so popular.
Following the procedure, you will be able to immediately resume most of your day-to-day activities. While you’ll be advised to avoid strenuous exercise for about two weeks — as well as facial massages — there isn’t a lot else you’ll be prevented from doing.
What’s more, you should only experience minor bruising and swelling on your face, all of which should dissipate in a couple days.
Being able to return to activities and work is another huge benefit of a thread lift. You won’t have to take vacation days from work, or not get paid, as you likely would with a traditional face lift.
