A thread lift is a minimally-invasive procedure that involves inserted thin PDO threads into the face to lift parts of the skin and stimulate the production of collagen. These threads have been used for many years as dissolvable sutures in surgical procedures, and have more recently been adapted for use in cosmetic procedures.
Practitioners use PDO threads with barbs on them for thread lifts, as they grab onto parts of your skin and lift it up. This can help to address sagging skin and a lack of definition, two very common issues associated with aging.
Your body will use natural processes to break down the threads once they’re inserted, which includes generating extra collagen in the treatment area. This collagen will not only help the results last long, but also make your skin more elastic, plump and younger looking.
The threads are inserted into your skin via a preloaded cannula, in a process that’s very similar to how an IV line is inserted. The procedure is pain-free and requires only local anesthesia.

While local anesthesia is also what is used for a PET lift, many patients have reported that the pain can be much worse after this procedure when compared to a thread lift.
Other possible complications include bleeding, infection and ingrown hairs at the site of the incisions.
