Are you interested in reversing the signs of aging? If so, you’re certainly not alone.

This desire is nothing new. What is relatively new, though, are all the minimally-invasive options for getting a more youthful look that are available.

While there’s nothing we can do to stop aging from happening, there are plenty of ways that we can reverse these signs. And today, you no longer have to undergo invasive surgery for a traditional facelift to get the results you are looking for.

People who are looking to obtain an appearance that’s younger looking in the face can do so in many ways. There are minimally-invasive procedures such as PDO thread lifts and Sculptra that can treat sagging skin and wrinkles, while also making your skin glow and look smoother.

But, which procedure is right for you? The best way to figure that out is to weigh the similarities, differences, benefits and drawbacks of each, which we’ll do below.

While there are certainly applications for both PDO threads and Sculptra, PDO thread lifts are the preferred option for most people. That’s because the applications for Sculptra are typically much more limited due to the fact that they can only produce subtle results.

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

PDO threads are thin threads that have what are called barbs on them that grab onto parts of your skin and lift them up. They have actually been used as dissolvable sutures in surgical procedures for more than 50 years, and have been a leading aesthetic medicine treatment for nearly 25 years now.

The barbs that are on the PDO threads are used to lift up parts of the skin on your face, which then mimics the results of a traditional facelift. As such, they can be used to lift sagging skin, add definition to around the lips or under eyelids, treat wrinkles and so much more.

PDO threads are completely biodegradable and biocompatible, which means there’s a low likelihood of adverse reactions. The body uses natural processes to break down the threads over time, which means you won’t ever have to have them removed.

During this process, the body will produce extra collagen. This not only helps the results of the procedure last longer, but it also helps to give your skin more elasticity and to look more youthful.

Providers only need to use local numbing agents before inserted the PDO threads into your skin using a preloaded canula, which is similar to how IVs are done. The procedures usually take about an hour or less to complete, and you’re able to resume most of your daily activities as soon as you leave the office.

The results from PDO thread lifts typically last at least a year but can last even longer. And if you want to replicate the results, you can always repeat the procedure again in the future.

    What is Sculptra?

Sculptra, by contrast, is an injectable filler. Like other injectables, it is inserted into parts of your face with a needle by a trained professional.

The material in Sculptra contains what is called poly-L-lactic acid. This acid will help to restore volume in your face while also stimulating the production of collagen — just like PDO threads do.

Because of how it works, many people refer to this procedure as a liquid facelift.

Sculptra is a lot different than other types of fillers, which are typically used to smooth out fine lines and add volume to parts of the face.

With Sculptra, the material will dissipate over a few days. Then, the results of the procedure will appear slowly over a few weeks or even months, as the extra collagen production begins to appear.

While the results from Sculptra procedures can last as much as a few years, most people see the results last for about a year or so. It can also be repeated at any time in the future to achieve the desired results again.

Some of the downsides of Sculptra are that the results usually take longer to appear, and they’re often much more subtle. This isn’t a great procedure if you have bigger problem areas of a lot of saggy skin.

In many ways, Sculptra should probably only be used for people who have mild symptoms, or early signs, of aging.
