An increasing number of people are realizing the immense benefits of a PDO thread lift to help reverse some of the signs of aging. As a minimally-invasive alternative to a traditional facelift, a PDO thread lift can address many common concerns, including sagging skin, lack of definition, wrinkles and much more.

You’ve likely heard about all of the advantages of a PDO thread lift — from their minimally-invasive nature, to the fact that the procedure doesn’t take very long, to the minimal downtime and recovery time, to the affordability. Of course, the biggest advantage of this procedure is that the results are quite amazing, and the procedure itself can be repeated as often as you’d like to achieve your desired results.

If you’ve never had a PDO thread lift before, you might be wondering what the process entails. Here, we’ll provide you with an explanation of the process of a PDO thread lift so you know what to expect.

    Step 1: Consultation

The first step for a PDO thread lift is to have a consultation with an experienced and trained provider. You should always vet prospective providers, searching for one who has experience with PDO thread lifts, who has good reviews and is someone you feel comfortable with.

Your first visit with this provider will include a consultation. They will listen to what your concerns are, look at your medical history and examine your skin.

During this consultation, the provider will suggest possible solutions to achieve the results you want, as well as what’s involved in that process. You’ll also have the chance to have any of your questions answered.

    Step 2: Prep

Sometimes, the consultation will be a separate visit, with an actual procedure being scheduled for a later date. Depending on what you’re getting done, you provider’s availability and other factors, the consultation could be the first part of your visit — with the actual procedure following.

Whichever way this works for you, the second step in the process of a PDO thread lift is the preparation.

Your provider will start by numbing the area where they will inject the PDO threads into your face. They will only need local numbing agents, and won’t need to use general anesthesia to “put you under.”

You may feel some slight pressure and pinching when this is happening, just as you would with other shots you get. The provider will then give the agent a few minutes to work, and will ensure that you are sufficiently numbed and comfortable before starting the procedure itself.

Step 3: Inserting the PDO Threads

Once the numbing agent has begun to work, your provider will start the process of inserting the PDO threads into your skin. Depending on the type of procedure you are getting done, as well as other factors such as your skin type, your provider will choose different types of PDO threads.

If you are having a PDO thread lift, where part of your skin will be lifted up and repositioned, for instance, they will use PDO threads that have barbs on them. These barbs grab onto parts of your skin and actually lift it up.

The PDO threads are inserted using a preloaded cannula. This is a very similar process to how an IV line is inserted.

Your provider will insert the thread into part of your skin, and then position it just perfectly to achieve the desired results you are looking for. They will then snip off the end of the PDO thread once they are completed and ensure that it is fully under the surface of your skin.

During this process, you shouldn’t feel any pain, but might feel some pressure and/or tugging on your skin.

    Step 4: Recovery Instructions

From start to finish, it should take only about an hour or less to complete your PDO thread lift. Once it is completed, you will be able to resume most of your daily activities as soon as you leave the office.

Before you leave, your provider will give you instructions for aftercare. In most cases, this will include instructions to avoid a few things for a few weeks following your procedure.

Examples include avoiding strenuous activities, deep massages and cleansing in the face and taking certain medications such as aspirin or NSAIDs. All of this will ensure that the results of your procedure will be as you want them and that you heal well.

    Step 5: Enjoy the Results

Over these next few weeks, you will start to notice the full results of your PDO thread lift procedure. Some of the results you will be able to see right away, but they will only get better over time.

As your body uses natural processes to break down the PDO threads, it will begin to produce more collagen in the area. This helps the results to last longer, and also makes your skin more plump, shiny and elastic — giving you the youthful look you are looking for.

How long the results will last can vary greatly depending on a number of factors including your age, your skin type, your metabolism, what type of procedure you got and much more. Regardless of how long they last, though, you can always repeat the procedure at any time to achieve the results you desire.
